Sarah-Jayne Smith & Ahshia Berry are the yin-and-yang duo behind the United States’ only nonprofit design house. The company collects old clothing, scrap textiles and other accessories to reuse in their own designs that are either sold directly to consumers or donated to charity auctions in their community. They also upcycle material to be used by colleges and emerging designers with who they partner with.
Sarah-Jayne and Ahshia’s hope is that by disrupting the cycle of waste in the fashion industry, they can keep material out of landfills and spread the message of sustainable fashion through education.
I wanted Sarah-Jayne and Ahshia’s perspective in the latest issue of Rank & File Magazine because of how heavily their business model relies on collaboration. They’ve partnered with everyone from NASA and the NFL, to their local government and colleges.
In this episode of the Rank & File Podcast, Sarah-Jayne and Ahshia will share how they have woven collaboration into their brand and inspire you to look for new ways to expand your impact in your community too.
In Today’s podcast episode, you’ll learn:
